Tour starts at the Port of Astoria, where you board a Streetcar that replicates the Old Time Streetcar from the 1920's. You will be surrounded by Windows, so as not to obscure your view of the Oldest American Settlement West of the Rockies, est. in 1811.

Astoria is where History Touches everything that you will see. Your Experienced Local Guide will take you through how life used to be in this tiny town of 10,000, and how preservation of this historic place is alive and well in the 21st century.

As you wind around the town, seeing sites that are as impressive today as they were over 200 years ago. You will see where John Jacob Astor started his fur trade business at Ft Astoria, Captain Flavel's Mansion built in 1885, only one of over 300 homes on the National Historical Registry, will stand out as crown jewels of each and every neighborhood. Making it to the Astoria Column for a brief visit and climb the 164 steps to the top where an astounding view of the Columbia River Awaits.

Ideal for first time visitors and those who prefer little or no walking, this guided tour offers an unhurried look at the country's first permanent American settlement west of the Rockies. Once on the coach, your knowledgeable guide will entertain you with local history and point out areas of interest. From the pier, you'll travel to the city's famed Astoria Column, a 125-foot-tall structure that serves as a monument to the Pacific Northwest. Here, you have the choice to climb up to the observation deck, visit the Gift Shop or relax in the comfort of the coach. Next, you'll continue on through historic downtown, home to restaurants, museums, breweries and lovely Victorian homes, and on past the Columbia River Maritime Museum and USCG docks. Three photo stops will be made along the way, so be sure to bring along your camera. Then, you'll return to the ship to plan your next adventure.

You'll board a motorcoach and travel to the Astoria Column for a brief photo stop. Built in 1926, the 125-foot-tall concrete and steel structure features a cast-iron 164-step staircase that leads to an observation deck. Next, you'll visit Fort Clatsop and tour a replica of the fort built by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Then, you'll visit the Columbia River Maritime Museum, which features one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast including the Lightship Columbia. On your return trip, you'll take a scenic drive through Astoria, the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Some of the sights you'll see include picturesque Victorian- and Queen Anne-style homes and churches; Uniontown, home of the men who worked at the Union Fish Cannery; and the "Doughboy" monument, dedicated to the soldiers from Astoria who served during World War I.

Enjoy a scenic drive along famous Highway 101 for free time in two noted Oregon coastal towns. Your first destination is the charming coastal village of Seaside. Once you disembark, you're on your own to stroll the boardwalk, buy saltwater taffy, look for souvenirs or ride the carousel. After reboarding your bus you'll continue to Cannon Beach, named for a U.S. Navy cannon that washed ashore in 1846. After you arrive in Cannon Beach, you're free to explore its colorful courtyards and streets or shop for souvenirs and mementos. Or stroll to the beach and take a photo of Haystack Rock. Composed of basalt, this 235-foot-tall rock formation is home to puffins, sea gulls and cormorants. At the end of your excursion, you'll return to Astoria along the same scenic route. 


Special Notes: Amount of walking is mainly at the guests' discretion. The downtown areas are flat, compact and easy to walk but there may be some steps and uneven surfaces to negotiate. Wearing appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Foldable wheelchairs of less than 70 lbs. may be accommodated but guests must be able to enter/exit the bus on their own. Tour order and routes may vary. This excursion offers guests independent time at each location; therefore, the cost of outdoor activities and meals are not included.

Board your motorcoach and visit the Astoria Column before you cross New Youngs Bay Bridge to Fort Stevens, the only U.S. fortification in the contiguous 48 states to be attacked by a foreign power since the War of 1812. Once you arrive your guide will take you on a tour of the complex and its bunkers, abandoned gun batteries, and tower stations. Although Fort Stevens did not see action during the Civil War, it sustained an attack during World War II when a Japanese submarine fired 17 shells on Battery Russell. No damage was incurred, and the Army didn't return fire. Shortly after World War II, the fort was deactivated, and the armaments were removed. Visit the museum to learn more about the fort before heading back to the ship. 


Special Notes: Dress appropriately; sturdy walking shoes and a warm jacket are recommended. Total walking distance is approximately 3 miles. The tour will operate in all weather conditions.

Join knowledgeable guides for a tour of the many locations that starred in Hollywood movies. After boarding your motorcoach, head to the site where Free Willy gained his freedom. View the wreck of the Peter Iredale, the most photographed site in Oregon. Enjoy a view of the "Goonies" house from the 1985 comedy adventure starring Sean Astin and Josh Brolin. Next is the 125-foot-high Astoria Column, used in Kindergarten Cop, Free Willy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, The Goonies, and Short Circuit. Stop at the Flavel House Museum, built in 1885, and one of the best-preserved examples of Queen Anne-style architecture in the Northwest. Your last stop is the old Clatsop County Jail seen in The Goonies, Come See the Paradise and Short Circuit. Used from 1914 to 1976, the jail is noted for being the longest used, freestanding jail in Oregon.

Discover under your own power the beauty and history of Astoria's waterfront and the Columbia River on a guided, 2.5-hour bike ride that travels paved and wooden pathways. After a short orientation, don a helmet and set off en masse on your exhilarating adventure. You'll pedal at a moderate pace following your guide, stopping to take photographs at key sites and to listen to engaging stories of the waterfront's development. Hear tales of the time when Astoria was known as the "Salmon Canning Capital of the World" and the "Wickedest Place on Earth" during its heyday as a busy seaport in the late 1800s. Pause at the local fish cannery and enjoy a tasting of fresh seafood while you learn about the fishing industry on the lower Columbia River. Continue your ride along the waterfront in search of the colorful wildlife that flocks to its shores. After the six-mile round trip route, return to the pier. 


Special Notes: Minimum age is 8. Dress in warm, layered clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes suitable for bike riding. Raingear may be needed in case of inclement weather. Part of the path is on wooden piers with uneven surfaces and spaces between planks. Not recommended for inexperienced bike riders.

Begin the excursion with the local history of the Oldest American Settlement west of the Rockies. The view from the Astoria Column atop of Coxcomb Hill will orient you to the geography of the area and the terrain the Corp of Discovery, captained by Lewis and Clark traveled on their journey to the Pacific Ocean.


Cross the Columbia River and follow the footsteps of Lewis & Clark on the North side of the River from November 7th to November 27th, 1805.

Experience a brief stop at Station Camp/Middle Village to learn its importance to the Corp of Discoveries success, the Chinook People, and the trading ships that have visited these shores for hundreds of years.


Travel to Waikiki Beach where Lewis and Clark finally completed their journey officially, by making contact with the Pacific Ocean for the very first time in Nov of 1805. This is a Wonderful Photo Opportunity of the cliffs of Cape Disappointment, and the longest lit Light House on the West Coast, continually watching over the Gateway to the Columbia River since 1854.


The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center Museum will visually explain about their westward journey and the hardships they endured from St. Louis, MO to Cape Disappointment, WA. A Wonderful Movie is available in their theater, 18 min. long, that will enhance the experience by putting it all together with great views of the surrounding area following the footsteps actually taken by the Corp.

Guests will also be within 200 yards of the Cape Disappointment Light House previously viewed from Waikiki Beach.


On the return trip to the Port, enjoy a short movie about the Clatsop Peoples view of the Corp of Discoveries stay at Fort Clatsop from Dec 7th, 1805, to March 23, 1806.

Your experienced tour guide will wrap up the Lewis and Clark Expeditions trip home and how the Corp of Discovery faired after such a long, important journey in our American History.

Composed of basalt, this 235-foot-tall rock formation is the home to puffins, sea gulls and cormorants. Your first stop is the Tillamook Air Museum, which is housed in a rare World War II blimp hangar. Reaching over 15 stories high and stretching over seven acres, it's the world's largest clear span wooden structure. Your next destination is the Tillamook Ice Creamery & Cheese Factory.
